Pulpotomy

What is a pulpotomy? A pulpotomy is often referred to as a baby root canal or pulp therapy. The inner portion of a tooth contains dental pulp, comprised of blood vessels, connective tissues, nerves, and other important cells. This delicate area is protected by the hard outer shell of your tooth enamel. As tooth decay slowly erodes your tooth enamel, it can cause injury and infection in your dental pulp. The goal of a pulpotomy is to save the tooth by removing the infected dental pulp and preventing further bacterial growth. Once all decay has been removed, we will seal off the tooth with a restoration, generally a dental filling or stainless steel crown. At General Dental 4 Kids, we strive to make your child as comfortable as possible during their pulpotomy treatment. Each member of our dental team has years of experience in helping children feel relaxed and providing gentle dentistry. We also utilize special sedation and anesthesia techniques to eliminate pain, stress, and worry. We want you and your child to leave our office with a healthy, happy smile.
